  • What's Driving Toyota Down?
Even Toyota's arch-cheerleader Consumer Reports have caught on that Toyota's "bullet-proof&quo... quality has quite a few holes in it (engine sludge, transmission problems, recalls). That's why CR took them off their "automatic recommendation" list. Others have stopped drinking the Toyota Kool-Aid, too, and that's why they're losing U.S. market share and "driving down".

  • $17.4 Billion Auto Bailout Unveiled: Government Guilty of Thinking Like Detroit
These loans are a better choice than bankruptcy, in the current environment. Governments around the world are providing liquidity to their auto industries during this severe downturn, just to ensure their suvival. Why be so short-sighted, as to call for their bankruptcy? This nation supported South Vietnam for ten years and Iraq for five yearsbut you don't think it should give Detroit a chance to restructure and survive over ONE year? Another disingenuous "free market" thinker, that I suspect is not even originally from this country.

  • Is the U.S. Economy Running Out of Options?
To Mr. "Socialism Cannot Compete", this is not the time for massive reductions in Federal spending. That would be the anti-stimulus, and is precisely what caused The Great Depression. It would be a fitting move, given the incompetent Republican president that we had at that time, and have now. As Cheney recently told his party's members of the Senate, "...we will be known as the party of Herbert Hoover forever". He's right. After Herbert Hoover, it took twenty years for the Republicans to regain the White House. It will likely be at least that long after Bush.

  • Some Republicans Take Some Semblance of Accountability for Auto Industry Bailout
A Senate failure to pass these temporary loans to the auto industry, and the resulting catastrophic chain reaction in our economy, would be a fitting end to eight disastrous years of Republican leadership. Such a possible legacy is likely why George W. Boob is pushing his party in the Senate to pass it.

  • Say No to the Auto Industry Beggars
James West is a "financial advisor". You know, a part of that wonderful industry that brought the current economic cataclysm upon the U.S. and the entire globe. Now he recommends that a good portion of the "real' economy collapse because of it. Yet another example of the type of myopic thinking that's brought us to brink of another Great Depression.

  • GM: More Bailout-Worthy than Citigroup
If the manufacturing sector implodes, which looks quite possible, we will confirm once and for all that this nation cannot produce wealth or build value by simply creating and churning worthless financial instruments.

  • The Tyranny of the Shareholders
Don't be so short-sighted, Felix. The issue is that 80% of consumers surveyed stated they would not buy a vehicle from an automaker in bankruptcy. So, Chapter 11, pre-packaged or not, would likely culminate in a Chapter 7 liquidation. The collapse of the domestic industry would follow with a cost to the taxpayers of hundreds of billions of dollars.

  • Detroit Calling Washington's Bluff
It's the same auto industry theme on Seeking Alpaha over and over. Let 'em go bankrupt. They're stupid. The UAW members earn too much. Nobody wants their vehicles. "Financial" types like this Mr. Snyder proved what they knew about the auto industry when Cerberus bought, and tried to turn around, Chrysler.

  • Is GM Cheap?
One huge positive is in place for GM. Nearly everyone hates GM stock and believes the company to be all but finished. But, as us old guys know, when nearly everyone believes anything it is almost always dead wrong.

  • Has General Motors Earned a Bailout?
Consider that GM and its employees have themselves paid billions into the Federal treasury over the company's 100 year history. Also consider the two world wars and cold war that GM technology and products helped win over that time. An on-going restructuring, underscored by world-class products, has been underway at GM. It was thrown off-track by a financial industry that caused a world wide crisis because of ITS products, namely worthless mortgage backed securities. So, in spite of all of this, you say GM has not earned Federal loans? GM not only deserves these loans but, based on the above, I dare say it might be owed to them.

  • Let the Automakers Die and Revive TARP's Original Mandate
The "Sovereign Society"?!?!? Poster children for the self-centered hypocrisy that has caused this entire mess. Listen to their mission statement "We've identified the safest and most private nations around the globe, where our members can find the best offshore banks, tax havens, legal structures, insurance vehicles, investment opportunities and tax management solutions." In other words "F**k America. We're all about gettin all the benefits, but avoiding paying for it".
