Free WSJ.com and Online Finance Media: The Ad Numbers Add Up
Rock - yes, they do. The figures I quoted in the TSCM conference call excerpt referred to their banner ads on the free site.

Free WSJ.com and Online Finance Media: The Ad Numbers Add Up
I'm sure that if WSJ.com goes free, DJ/NWS will do a smart redesign that among other things will increase internal promotion and raise page views. They may have begun this already with some of the recent homepage changes.

Palladium: An Investable Metal That Defies Physics
Comment submitted by a physicist friend of a Seeking Alpha reader:

I have looked at the article, and I am not convinced that Pd will have a particularly bright future, any more than any other rare metal The point he makes about fuel cells requiring PGM metals is incorrect - there are organic films that also perform as the role of proton filters and I suspect these will be used rather than Pd structures. The fact that Pd can absorb 900 times its volume of H is interesting, but this is not enough to make it a viable storage medium because of its cost. The absorption gives the H a density in the Pd of almost exactly the same value it has in liquid hydrogen - a peculiar coincidence I believe, although there may be some fundamental reason for this. We know that fusion does not occur spontaneously in liquid hydrogen, and I am confident that it is not easily induced when the hydrogen is in a Pd matrix either. I did a quick look at current thinking on "cold fusion", and I still believe it is voodoo science - lots of claims but no reproducible or credible results. - As you said, mining stocks obey their own rules, so it may be a good investment regardless, but I am not inclined to jump on the band wagon.

Consistent Seasonality of Smallcaps and Microcaps
      Comment from 'trustdnb':

It has been noted by Seigel and others that the notorious January effect is evident mostly in small caps (and to a lesser extent value stocks). But I would be curious to know if this smallcap outperformance persists in downmarkets as well as upmarkets. If the market is still in a downward spiral as we head into January '08, would it make sense to sell SPY against IWM/IWN?

I was also struck by that there in NYC... the whole pace of life slows down when residents get in those lines.

But notice how many people are checking their Crackberries in line - and what about the caffeine fixes' impact on worktime productivity ;)

Interactive Q&A: Ted Awerkamp, President and CEO of Mercantile Bancorp
Hello Ted, thanks for joining us on Seeking Alpha.

How does the turmoil surrounding subprime debt affect your business?

Many investors are wary of the financial sector across the board because of this matter - what should they know about the impact on community banks in particular?

Microsoft to Take $240M Facebook Stake, Become Exclusive Ad Platform
I'm surprised by a) the mile-high valuation and b) Microsoft's willingness to receive such a small % in the investment. FB clearly had tremendous leverage here - you have to hand it to them. Zuckerberg looks to be the real winner.

Welcome to the New Seeking Alpha
      Thanks Daniel.

Regarding the author byline - a central goal of the rebuild is to bring more attention to authors. Articles, like mine here, will contain a full sidebar element with not only a link to the author's site, but also a new link to the author's bio and articles that have been published on SA.

On RSS feeds and third party feeds, the intro byline will remain the same as it was on the old site, ie. 'Daniel Jacome submits:' with a link to your site.

Also, we plan to use the central box on the homepage to highlight an 'author of the week' that will rotate among our top contributors.

      ~ Mick
